The only ammo to stay away from for tube magazine rifles is Spire Point, round point and flat point are both ok, the concern here is having a bullet point directly touching the primer of the bullet ahead of it in the tube. The greater the recoil, the greater the chance of a problem. May be more of an issue in a 45-70 than a 30-30 but better to be safe than sorry. For hunting you can chamber one and one in tube to avoid this problem. If you are timed in the shoots you are doing it could be an issue for you. If in doubt go to the web site of the ammo manufacturer and they should say if it is ok for use in lever action rifles and may say specificly ok for Marlins.
