1893 and 94 rear firing pins

Post by Brent »

I am in Raton for the Nationals and broke the rear pin on my 1894 Marlin (circa 1910ish). Will the the rear pin from my 1920s 1893 fit? I am weighing my options before pulling the 93 apart.

Yes, they take the same rear pin parts. I've never in my life heard of or seen the rear half break on an early Marlin levergun!! Wow!

Thanks! Here are two views. One is the broken surface, the other is where the front end of the pin strikes the forward firing pin.

Doesn't look "broken". It looks like it was made from a softer steel and hammered itself until it got that appearance? Wonder if it was replaced at some time and made from too soft steel?

Hard to say, but the front end does seem to be too soft. It I'd break however. It is half as long as it should be. Went from shooting perfectly to not making even the smallest knick on the primer in one shot. Glad it happened when it did and not in the middle of the match.
